HEIC to JPG Converter

Turn HEIC photos into JPGs with quality control, a long-edge cap, and a target file size.

Runs locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or sent to a server.

Choose HEIC files or drag them onto the page to convert them automatically into downloadable JPGs. Start at 92% quality, then adjust Quality, Max size (long edge), or Max file size. Conversion runs on your device with sRGB canvas encoding enabled by default. Select up to 50 files for a batch and download successful results as a ZIP. A file size target chooses quality automatically and reduces dimensions if needed; check the resulting size before submitting a photo to a form.

How do you convert a HEIC photo into a JPG that fits an upload form?

Choose your HEIC or HEIF photo above and the converter creates a JPG automatically. For a form with dimension and file size restrictions, set both Max size (long edge) and Max file size. These solve different problems: the first limits pixel dimensions, while the second searches for an encoded file small enough for your chosen byte limit.

For a worked example, suppose the decoded photo measures 4032 × 3024 pixels. Selecting 1600 px gives a scale factor of 1600 ÷ 4032. The converter rounds each scaled dimension to a whole pixel, producing 1600 × 1200. Selecting Under 500 KB then sets a target of 500 × 1024 = 512,000 bytes. The final file size depends on the photo; the dimensions alone cannot predict it.

Worked example using a 4032 × 3024 decoded image
SettingEffect
Original, No limitKeeps dimensions and uses the selected quality.
1600 px, No limitProduces 1600 × 1200 pixels at the selected quality.
1600 px, Under 500 KBStarts at 1600 × 1200 and automatically searches quality; further shrinking is possible.

Read the output size before submitting it. A form may interpret KB differently or impose an additional dimension requirement. Use a smaller custom target for headroom rather than assuming a preset guarantees acceptance by every service.

What does HEIC to JPG conversion change?

Conversion decodes image pixels and writes a new JPEG file; renaming a .heic extension to .jpg does not perform that operation. This page accepts .heic and .heif selections and produces .jpg output. By default, the original filename stem is retained: holiday.heic becomes holiday.jpg. The single-file download also provides an editable filename.

The output is a separate working copy. Preserve the original if you need to revisit export settings or retain information carried by its container. A multi-image HEIC yields one output from its primary image. This tool does not extract every image from that container or produce a motion sequence.

How does the converter process photos on your device?

The page imports heic-to/csp when conversion first needs it and reuses the loaded decoder for subsequent calls. With the default settings, it decodes the source to PNG, creates an image bitmap, and draws that bitmap onto a canvas before JPEG encoding. The PNG is an intermediate representation; the download on this page remains JPG.

Resizing, sRGB canvas encoding, or a file size target each require that canvas path. If all three are disabled, the tool requests JPEG directly from the decoder at your selected quality. An empty decoder result is treated as an error rather than offered as a download. The first load and repeated encoding can take time; no fixed conversion time is promised.

Which quality and resize settings should you choose?

Quality starts at 92%. It controls the JPEG encoder, not a measured percentage of detail retained. Lower settings trade image fidelity for compression, but no fixed savings ratio applies to every photo. Compare edges, text, and fine textures in the preview before downloading. Exporting at a high setting does not recover information absent from the source.

Max size (long edge) offers Original, 3840, 2048, 1600, and 1080 px, plus Custom.... It preserves aspect ratio subject to whole-pixel rounding and never enlarges a photo already below the cap. For separate dimension editing after conversion, use Image Resizer. Avoid reducing dimensions when the destination requires a minimum width or height.

How does the automatic file size search work?

The presets are Under 200 KB, Under 500 KB, Under 1 MB, and Under 2 MB. Custom values use KB or MB; conversion to bytes multiplies by 1024 or 1,048,576 respectively and rounds the result. While a target is active, the manual Quality slider is disabled because the search chooses the encoder setting.

At each scale, the search tries 95% and then 30% quality. If the lower setting fits, it tests intermediate settings, using at most seven encodes at that scale. If even 30% is too large, it multiplies the scale by 0.9 and retries. There are at most twelve scale rounds. This is a bounded search, so a target is not a guarantee. Single-file results show a warning when the limit cannot be met; batch results require checking their output sizes.

Can you convert and download a whole batch?

Selecting several photos starts batch processing automatically. The queue keeps the first 50 selected files and runs two conversions concurrently. Settings apply across the batch. Changing a single-file setting regenerates its result automatically; changing batch settings requires clicking Re-convert All with the displayed count before downloading updated output.

Download ZIP packages successful conversions as converted-jpg.zip. Failed items are excluded, so compare the converted count with the number selected. A successful ZIP does not mean every source converted. The upload hint advertises HEIC / HEIF up to 100 MB; the converter handlers do not enforce a corresponding byte-size rejection. Treat that hint as guidance, and try fewer files if processing is difficult on your device.

What happens to colors, EXIF, and private photo data?

Convert colors to sRGB is enabled by default and requests an sRGB canvas context for JPEG output. This specifies the encoding path, not a guarantee that every display reproduces colors identically. Turning it off bypasses the extra canvas stage only when neither resizing nor a file size target is selected.

There is no EXIF toggle or metadata-copy operation in this converter. The default export writes decoded pixels into a new JPEG; do not rely on it to preserve GPS coordinates, capture dates, or camera settings. Inspect any file before sharing if metadata matters. Conversion stays in your browser. The Content Security Policy permits connections only to this site; initial decoder loading can still appear in the Network panel.

Should you use JPG, PNG, or another image format?

Use this JPG output when the receiving form or application requests JPEG. If your next editing step needs PNG, choose HEIC to PNG Converter instead. For WebP, AVIF, or other output workflows, check Universal Image Converter. Match the destination's accepted formats and restrictions rather than choosing a format from a claimed universal size saving.

How to Use HEIC to JPG Converter

  1. Choose HEIC files or drag & drop

Select one HEIC or HEIF file for a single conversion, or multiple files for a batch of up to 50. Conversion starts automatically.

  2. Quality

Inspect the preview and adjust Quality from its 92% default. Single-file changes regenerate the result automatically.

  3. Max size (long edge)

Leave Original selected to keep dimensions, or select a pixel preset or Custom... value. Smaller images are never enlarged. Leave Convert colors to sRGB enabled for sRGB canvas encoding.

  4. Max file size

Choose No limit, an Under 200 KB, Under 500 KB, Under 1 MB, or Under 2 MB preset, or Custom... with KB or MB. A target disables manual quality control. For changed batch settings, click Re-convert All with the displayed count.

  5. Download

Check the output size and dimensions. Click Download for a single JPG or Download ZIP for successful batch results.
