Social Post Mockup Generator
Preview four post styles with local images, dates and counts; download PNG for X and Instagram.
Platform
150 / 280 characters (weighted; URLs count as 23)
Uses your local time zone.
Live preview
Just launched my new project - a free browser-based toolkit that keeps all your files private. No uploads, no servers, 100% client-side. Check it out!
Drawn locally from your post data. Image exports may differ slightly from the live preview.
Runs locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or sent to a server.
Choose a platform, enter your profile and post content, and get a live social post mockup without publishing anything. Add a local avatar, set the date and engagement counts, and switch between light and dark mode. X / Twitter and Instagram also support a local post image and Download PNG; Facebook and LinkedIn use screenshots. The character counter follows the selected platform, including weighted counting for X. Entered content stays in browser memory rather than a saved draft.

How do you turn a draft into a downloadable post mockup?
Choose X / Twitter under Platform, enter a Display name and Handle (@), then type Post content. Live preview updates as you edit. For a worked example, use the name Maya Chen, handle mayastudio, and the exact text Studio doors open Friday. The counter shows 25 / 280 characters: six letters, a space, five letters, a space, four letters, a space, six letters and a period.
Set likes to 1250, comments to 18 and shares to 42. The X card displays 1.3K Likes, 18 Replies and 42 Reposts because counts at or above one thousand use one decimal place in thousands. Choose an Avatar and an optional Post image (X / Instagram), set Post date and time, and click Download PNG. The file is named twitter-mockup.png. These counts are presentation inputs, not measured or predicted engagement.
Switch to Instagram to reuse the draft. The caption appears after the username, the image occupies a square, and likes and comments replace the X metric row. The shares value remains in the form but is not displayed as an Instagram count. Export this version separately; switching platform changes the current preview rather than creating a side-by-side comparison.
What is a social post mockup useful for?
A mockup places proposed copy, account details and imagery in a platform-style card without publishing a post. Use it in a campaign pitch, a content-calendar review or a comparison of two copy variations. It gives reviewers something more concrete than an isolated paragraph: the visible name, attachment, date and engagement labels all become part of the composition.
For a review workflow, export one version before editing the next and label the resulting files yourself. There is no multi-post project, scheduling queue or saved version history here. The card is an illustration assembled from the values you provide, so identify it as a concept when sharing it. The generator does not connect to an account, retrieve a real post or publish the draft.
How do the four platform styles differ?
The same values feed four renderers. This table describes the mockups in this tool, including its configured counter thresholds; it is not a promise that every account or live platform uses identical limits or layouts.
| Style | Counter threshold | Visible details | Save method |
|---|---|---|---|
| X / Twitter | 280 weighted characters | Display name, @handle, replies, reposts, likes; optional attachment | Download PNG or screenshot |
| 2,200 grapheme clusters | Username, bio, square image area, caption, likes and comments | Download PNG or screenshot | |
| 63,206 grapheme clusters | Display name, public timestamp, likes, comments and shares | Screenshot | |
| 3,000 grapheme clusters | Display name, tagline, public timestamp, reactions, comments and reposts | Screenshot |
Tagline / bio appears in the controls for Instagram and LinkedIn only. Facebook does not display the username field, and neither Facebook nor LinkedIn renders the selected post attachment. Choose the platform before reviewing field visibility. A hidden value stays in the current draft when you switch back.
How are characters, links and long posts handled?
The X counter uses weighted text length. Recognized URLs contribute 23 characters, while supported emoji sequences and wide character ranges contribute two. Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn count grapheme clusters using Intl.Segmenter. A visible character sequence can therefore have a different count on X than on another card. Profile names and bios are not included in the Post content counter.
Going over the selected threshold adds an over-limit warning and marks the textarea invalid for accessibility. It does not truncate your text or disable export. Line breaks remain visible in the post, and long text wraps within the card. Links and hashtags remain plain post text: the generator does not fetch a destination, build a link-preview card or add special hashtag formatting.
What happens to uploaded images and empty fields?
Local images provides one Avatar and one Post image slot. The accepted file types are PNG, JPEG, WebP and GIF; there is no gallery, carousel or video input. Avatars appear as circles. Without an avatar, the tool uses initials from the first two space-separated parts of Display name, falling back to U when no initials are available.
Instagram fills its square image area by cropping the attachment to cover it; X displays the attachment at its original aspect ratio. Keep important text away from image edges when preparing an Instagram concept. Use Social Media Resizer to prepare another image size before selecting the file here. Remove clears the selected image, and Instagram shows a Post image placeholder when its image slot is empty.
Blank fields can show sample labels such as Display Name, username or placeholder post copy. Clear a field and inspect the preview rather than assuming it creates an empty space. For X handles, enter the username without an initial @ because the card adds that symbol itself.
Why can the PNG differ from the live preview?
Download PNG draws from your entered data using Canvas 2D. It does not take a screenshot of the styled preview. X uses a logical width of 500 pixels and Instagram 468; both are exported at twice those dimensions, producing widths of 1,000 and 936 pixels. Height depends on wrapped text, header content and the attachment. Export rejects a calculated logical height above 16,000 pixels.
The canvas wraps measured characters and preserves newline-separated paragraphs. Its header, spacing and checkmark drawing differ from the preview. GIF is accepted as an input image, but PNG output is a still image. If export reports that an image could not be decoded, choose another image. If the post is too tall, shorten the text or replace a very tall attachment. For an exact capture of the visible card arrangement, use a screenshot.
How should you review dates, badges and appearance?
Post date and time uses your local time zone; Use now resets it to the current local time. X shows time followed by date, Instagram shows the date, and Facebook and LinkedIn show date and time with Public. That word is a display label, not an audience setting. Verified badge similarly adds a visual mark without checking identity or account status.
Review both states of Dark mode, especially with a logo or image containing pale edges. Check names, line breaks, cropping and the downloaded output before sharing. Edits live in component memory, with no draft persistence or upload operation in this tool. Download or capture the version you need before leaving or reloading the page; a mockup file preserves the illustration, not an editable project.
