Screenshot Anonymizer
Cover screenshot details with solid fill or blur, using drawn rectangles or exact pixel coordinates.
Choose a screenshot or drag & drop
Draw rectangles over sensitive areas to blur or redact them
Runs locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or sent to a server.
Choose a screenshot, mark sensitive areas, and click Apply & Download to get an anonymized PNG. Solid fill is the default and replaces selected pixels with a color; Blur is a cosmetic alternative with adjustable intensity. Draw rectangles with a mouse or touch, or enter image pixel coordinates using Add region. Processing stays in your browser. Copy image is also available when your browser supports image clipboard writing.

How do you anonymize a screenshot before sharing it?
Choose a screenshot, keep Solid fill selected, and draw rectangles over names, email addresses, account details, or other private information. Click Apply & Download to create a new PNG. Open the downloaded file and check every covered area before attaching it to a message, support ticket, or public report.
The tool works on an image file you choose; it does not capture your screen or automatically find sensitive details. Review the whole screenshot yourself. A name in the main panel may also appear in a sidebar, notification, browser tab, or address bar. Mark each occurrence separately, including identifying details that remain readable around the edge of a rectangle.
What is the difference between solid fill and blur?
Solid fill paints over selected pixels with the chosen Fill color. It starts with black, and the color picker also provides a white preset. Blur changes the appearance of the underlying image instead of replacing the area with a uniform color. The interface warns that blur and pixelation are cosmetic and may reveal information, so use solid fill for confidential details.
| Option | What the export does | Control |
|---|---|---|
| Solid fill | Paints a colored rectangle over each region | Fill color; black by default |
| Blur | Applies canvas blur inside each region | Intensity from 5 to 40 pixels; starts at 20 |
| Pixelation fallback | Reduces each region and enlarges it without smoothing | Used automatically when blur is unavailable or ineffective |
Mode, color, and intensity are shared settings for the current image. They are not saved individually with each rectangle. Switching from Solid fill to Blur before exporting changes the treatment of every marked region. If the screenshot contains any secret that needs complete coverage, keep solid fill selected for the export rather than assuming an earlier rectangle retains its previous mode.
How do exact pixel coordinates and keyboard selection work?
Use the Add region using image pixels form when dragging is inconvenient or you need precise bounds. X measures the distance from the image's left edge and Y from its top edge. Width and Height specify the rectangle's size. Enter whole pixels, then press Add region. The form displays the source dimensions, which remain the coordinate reference even if the screenshot appears smaller on your screen.
For example, in a 1200-by-800-pixel screenshot, X = 100, Y = 60, Width = 300, and Height = 40 selects a rectangle spanning horizontal coordinates 100 to 400 and vertical coordinates 60 to 100. With black Solid fill, that selected area is painted black in the exported image. The output still measures 1200 by 800 pixels; adding a region does not crop or resize it.
Regions are constrained to the image bounds. A rectangle that extends past the right or bottom edge is shortened to fit. Give sensitive text enough surrounding coverage, then inspect the output rather than relying only on coordinate arithmetic. Undo removes the most recently added rectangle; Change image clears the regions and returns to image selection.
Does the editor preview show the finished redaction?
The red translucent boxes show where your selections are. They are drawn on a separate overlay above the original image, so the text remains visible underneath while you work. These boxes are selection guides, not a preview of the final solid fill or blur. The export renders the chosen effect onto a new canvas without including the red selection outlines.
After downloading, open the PNG and inspect small text, rectangle edges, and repeated identifiers. This separates checking your selection from checking what a recipient will actually receive. If you missed an area, add another region and export again. Keep track of which file is the inspected copy so you do not accidentally share the original screenshot.
How do local processing, PNG download, and clipboard export work?
The image loader uses a local object URL and the browser's image decoder. Supported input therefore depends on what your browser can open; the tool does not provide a separate format converter or a guaranteed list of decoders. Rendering uses the Canvas 2D API, and the output is encoded as PNG at the original image dimensions. Processing this file does not require uploading it to a server.
Apply & Download saves the result as anonymized-screenshot.png. Copy image appears when image clipboard writing is available and exports the same rendered PNG. Clipboard permissions may still block the operation; use the download button if copying fails. Both actions require at least one region, preventing an export before you have marked an area.
This workflow covers selected image pixels. It does not read text, detect faces, or decide whether a screenshot is safe to publish. For a document rather than a screenshot, use Redact PDF. Review other local workflows in Privacy Tools when preparing material for sharing.
How to Use Screenshot Anonymizer
-
Choose a screenshot or drag & drop
Select an image your browser can decode. The editor opens the image locally and displays its original pixel dimensions.
-
Solid fill
Keep the default Solid fill mode and choose Fill color, or select Blur and adjust Intensity for a cosmetic effect. The selected mode applies to every region when exporting.
-
Add region
Draw rectangles over sensitive areas, or enter X, Y, Width, and Height under Add region using image pixels and press Add region. Undo removes the last region.
-
Apply & Download
Export anonymized-screenshot.png, then open it to check coverage before sharing. Copy image provides the same PNG through the clipboard when supported.
