WiFi QR Code Generator

Build a WiFi QR code and guest sign with credential checks, hidden-network support, and SVG/PNG export.

QR style

Runs locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or sent to a server.

Enter Network Name (SSID), select Encryption Type, and enter Password to generate a WiFi QR code automatically. Download the code as SVG or PNG, or create a printable guest sign with a custom headline and optional visible password. Hidden networks, special-character escaping, color warnings, and four error correction levels are included. Generation runs in your browser; image copying and device sharing depend on browser support. Test the exported code on a guest device before displaying it.

How do you create a WiFi QR code for guests?

Enter your network name, choose its encryption type, and enter its password. The QR code appears automatically once the required fields contain nonblank values. There is no Generate button. You can save the code alone or prepare a guest sign with a headline, network name, and optional password text.

For a worked example, enter Studio;Guest as Network Name (SSID), choose WPA / WPA2 / WPA3, and enter Visit:2468 as Password. Leave Hidden network unchecked. The password has 10 characters, within the tool's accepted WPA warning range. Encoded string displays:

WIFI:T:WPA;S:Studio\;Guest;P:Visit\:2468;H:false;;

The backslashes protect the semicolon in the name and colon in the password from being interpreted as field separators. Enter both values normally; the generator adds those escapes. Check the resulting string, download the image, and test it before making multiple copies for a reception desk or guest room.

What does a WiFi QR code actually contain?

The generated image contains a WIFI: payload with four fields: T for encryption, S for SSID, P for password, and H for the hidden-network flag. A compatible scanner interprets these details as a network connection request. Joining still depends on the receiving device, its permissions, the router, and correct credentials.

This is a static code containing the details directly. It has no hosted destination, expiry date, or redirect to maintain. Changing the sign headline, colors, or export size does not change the credentials. Changing the network name or password requires generating and distributing a replacement; previously saved images retain the old details.

Which encryption type should you choose?

Match Encryption Type to the network you intend to share. Selecting an option describes the credentials in the QR payload; it does not change router settings or upgrade network security. The choices in this tool map to these exact values:

Encryption choices and their encoded values
UI choicePayloadPassword handling
WPA / WPA2 / WPA3T:WPAPassword required; warning outside 8–63 characters
WEP (legacy)T:WEPChecks ASCII or hexadecimal key structure
None (open network)T:nopassPassword field hidden; encoded P field empty

The combined WPA option does not write a separate WPA3 identifier or guarantee that every phone supports your router's security mode. There are no enterprise identity, certificate, or captive-portal configuration fields. Use this form for the network details it exposes, rather than expecting it to reproduce an organization's full authentication setup.

How are hidden names, special characters, and long SSIDs handled?

Hidden network (SSID not broadcast) writes H:true; leaving it unchecked writes H:false. Type the SSID exactly as configured, including case and intentional spaces. The readiness check ignores surrounding whitespace when deciding whether a field is blank, but the encoded value preserves your input. It does not automatically trim a mistyped space.

Backslash, semicolon, comma, colon, and double quote are escaped automatically in names and passwords. Values consisting entirely of hexadecimal digits are additionally wrapped in double quotes. This avoids ambiguity for some readers; the SSID also receives an explanatory warning when this happens. Do not manually pre-escape values copied from your router settings.

The SSID warning uses a maximum of 32 UTF-8 bytes, rather than a visible-character count. Accented letters and emoji can consume multiple bytes. This check does not establish that every receiving scanner will interpret non-ASCII names identically. Test the exact network name on your target devices, especially before printing a batch of signs.

What do credential warnings check, and what do they miss?

For WPA, a nonempty password shorter than 8 or longer than 63 characters triggers a warning. WEP accepts 5 or 13 ASCII characters, or 10 or 26 hexadecimal digits. These checks describe input structure. They do not measure password strength, confirm the password against the router, or establish whether the network is reachable.

Warnings are advisory: an overlong SSID or incorrectly sized password can still produce a preview. A blank SSID stops generation, as does a blank password for a protected network. An open network only needs the name. Use the Password field's Show control to check transcription, then compare Encoded string with the intended details. A successful scan alone is not proof of a successful connection.

How should you choose colors, error correction, and export size?

QR style starts with black foreground, white background, M error correction, and a 1000 px PNG size. Error correction offers L (7%), M (15%), Q (25%), and H (30%) as labeled in the interface. Those labels are not a promise that a code with that percentage of its visible area covered will scan.

The generator adds a four-module quiet zone around the code. Preserve that border when cropping or framing it. Color checks warn about an inverted foreground/background relationship or a contrast ratio below 4:1. They do not certify the printed result. Test after changing colors and after printing, since paper, glare, scale, and camera behavior affect readability.

Download SVG saves the standalone vector code. PNG size selects 600, 1000, or 2000 pixels per side for the standalone PNG. A larger PNG changes the raster dimensions, not the credentials. For a different kind of payload, use the QR Code Generator.

How do you print, copy, or share a complete guest sign?

Printable sign starts with the headline Scan to join WiFi. Edit Sign headline and choose A4, US Letter, or A6 table tent under Sign size. Print sign opens the browser print dialog with styling that isolates the sign. Check the print preview and physical result before displaying it.

The complete sign has separate PNG download, image copy, and sharing actions. Its PNG is 1200 pixels wide and grows vertically to accommodate wrapped text; the standalone PNG size setting does not size this card. Copy image appears when supported. Device sharing also depends on browser support. Keep a downloaded image when you need a portable file.

How do you share credentials without exposing your main network?

Use a guest network configured on your router when appropriate; this generator does not create or isolate one. For homes, offices, or hospitality spaces, place the sign where the intended visitors can scan it. Leaving Show password as text on sign unchecked removes the separate text line, but the password remains readable inside the QR payload.

Generation runs in your browser through the local QR engine. Choosing a sharing destination deliberately gives that destination an image containing credentials. Treat downloads, clipboard images, and photographs accordingly. If you need new credentials, use the Password Generator, update the router first, and then replace the signs that encode the previous password.

How to Use WiFi QR Code Generator

  1. Network Name (SSID)

Enter the exact network name. Select Encryption Type: WPA / WPA2 / WPA3, WEP (legacy), or None (open network).

  2. Password

Enter the network password for a protected network. Use Show to check it, and select Hidden network (SSID not broadcast) only when appropriate. The QR code updates automatically.

  3. QR style

Choose Error correction, PNG size, Foreground, and Background. Review the Encoded string and any credential or contrast warnings before exporting.

  4. Download SVG

Download the standalone QR as SVG or use its image download control for PNG. Copy image and device sharing are available when supported.

  5. Printable sign

Edit Sign headline and Sign size. Optionally enable Show password as text on sign. Use Print sign or the separate card image actions to export the guest sign.
