Terms of Service

Last updated:

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using brownie.tools ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to any part of these terms, please do not use the Service. Your continued use of the Service after any changes to these terms constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

2. Service Description

brownie.tools provides a collection of free, browser-based utility tools including file converters, image editors, PDF tools, text processors, developer utilities, and more. All tools run entirely within your browser using client-side JavaScript and WebAssembly. No files or data are transmitted to any server operated by brownie.tools.

The Service is provided free of charge with no registration, account, or payment required. Access to the Service depends on internet connectivity for the initial page load; most tools operate offline after loading.

3. Privacy and Data

brownie.tools is designed around a privacy-first architecture. The following data practices apply:

  • No file uploads. Files you select or drag into any tool are processed entirely within your browser's memory. No file content is transmitted to any server. Content Security Policy headers permit connections only to this site; tool code makes no network requests while processing your files.
  • No tracking cookies. The Service sets zero cookies. There are no session cookies, analytics cookies, or advertising cookies.
  • Optional localStorage. The Service may store the following in your browser's localStorage: your theme preference (dark/light mode, stored automatically) and a list of recently used tools (opt-in, disabled by default, contains only tool names and URLs). No file content or personally identifiable information is written to localStorage.
  • No user accounts. The Service does not require or offer user registration. No personal information is collected during normal use.

For full details, see the Privacy Policy.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Process files or content that infringes any third party's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.
  • Attempt to circumvent, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the Service's technical controls or security measures.
  • Use automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access or use the Service in a way that places unreasonable load on the infrastructure.
  • Redistribute, resell, or sublicense the Service or its underlying source code without explicit written permission.

These restrictions apply to the web application. Third-party open-source libraries used by the Service (pdf-lib, FFmpeg.wasm, etc.) are governed by their own respective licenses, which are listed on the licenses page.

5. Intellectual Property

The brownie.tools source code, design, branding, and website content are proprietary and owned by the developer unless otherwise noted. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute the site's code or design without explicit written permission.

Your output belongs to you. Any files you produce using the tools on this Service - converted images, processed PDFs, generated text, etc. - are your own work. brownie.tools makes no claim to ownership of output files. The Service does not retain copies of any processed files.

Third-party open-source libraries embedded in the Service are used under their respective open-source licenses (MIT, Apache 2.0, LGPL, etc.). These licenses do not restrict your use of the output you produce.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, either express or implied. brownie.tools does not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any particular time.
  • The output produced by any tool is accurate, complete, or fit for any particular purpose.
  • Any specific file format, codec, or browser feature will be supported on your device.
  • Any defects or errors will be corrected within a specific timeframe.

Tool output should be verified before use in production, professional, or legal contexts. Do not rely solely on brownie.tools for critical file conversions without independent verification.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, brownie.tools and its developer are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to:

  • Loss or corruption of data or files during processing.
  • Inaccurate conversion or transformation results.
  • Service unavailability or downtime.
  • Any actions you take based on output produced by the Service.

Because all processing occurs in your browser without any server involvement, brownie.tools has no ability to recover files or undo operations. Always keep a backup of important files before processing them with any online or local tool.

8. Third-Party Services and Links

The Service is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes standard HTTP request data (IP address, User-Agent) for CDN and security purposes, governed by Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

Tool engines, WebAssembly modules, and models are served from this site. Loading these assets involves standard HTTP metadata only; your file content is processed locally.

The Service may contain links to external websites. brownie.tools is not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any linked third-party sites.

9. Changes to the Service

brownie.tools reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice. Individual tools may be added, removed, or changed based on technical constraints, legal requirements, or maintenance considerations.

10. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects when changes were last made. Because brownie.tools does not collect email addresses, we cannot notify users of changes directly. We recommend reviewing this page periodically. Continued use of the Service after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from use of the Service should first be raised by contacting us directly. We will make a good-faith effort to resolve any issues informally before formal proceedings.

12. Contact

If you have questions about these terms, please open an issue on GitHub Issues or use the contact page.
