AVIF to PNG Converter
Convert up to 50 AVIF files locally, preserve transparency, and download PNGs individually or as a ZIP.
Choose AVIF files or drag & drop
Converts to PNG. Up to 100.0 MB per file. Max 50.
- or -
Runs locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or sent to a server.
Choose your AVIF files or drag and drop them to convert automatically, then click Download for a PNG or Download ZIP for a batch. The converter processes up to 50 files locally and preserves transparency through PNG output. For a single image, compare the before-and-after preview and edit the output filename. There is no PNG quality slider; lossless encoding saves the canvas image without restoring detail already lost in the source AVIF.

How do you convert an AVIF image to a usable PNG?
Choose an AVIF file or drag it onto the upload area. Conversion starts automatically, and the result is a PNG ready for Download. Use the single-image preview to compare the source with the output, check the dimensions and file size, and edit the output filename before saving. Select several files together when you want a batch instead.
For a worked example, suppose you have a transparent product cutout named product.avif, decoded at 1200 × 800 pixels. The default path does not request resizing, so the PNG canvas uses those dimensions: 1200 × 800 = 960,000 pixels. The suggested filename becomes product.png. Transparent areas remain available for placing the cutout over a different background in your document or editor.
The downloaded byte size cannot be calculated from dimensions alone. If that example's source were 200,000 bytes and its result were 800,000 bytes, the displayed size increase would be +300%: (800,000 − 200,000) ÷ 200,000 × 100. These are illustrative file sizes, not a promised compression ratio. The result card uses the actual source and output sizes.
Why convert AVIF to PNG instead of keeping AVIF or choosing JPG?
Convert when your destination accepts PNG but rejects AVIF, or when you need a transparent image for further editing. PNG uses lossless compression under the Portable Network Graphics specification. That makes it useful for a rendered copy of a logo, interface graphic, cutout, or illustration. Check the destination's accepted formats before converting an entire folder.
| Format | Reason to choose it | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Original AVIF | Keep the source representation | Your destination must decode AVIF |
| PNG output here | Lossless canvas export with transparency | File size can increase; source metadata is not copied |
| JPG through the related converter | An opaque image when transparency is unnecessary | JPEG uses lossy compression and cannot retain an alpha channel |
For an opaque photograph where download size matters, consider AVIF to JPG. For transparent graphics, inspect the PNG first rather than changing formats solely to reduce bytes. A larger file is not evidence of a failed conversion, and a smaller file is not proof of better visual quality.
How does the browser turn AVIF into PNG?
The engine calls createImageBitmap to decode the source, creates a canvas at the output dimensions, and draws the bitmap into its 2D context. It then exports with the image/png MIME type. Where available, the canvas implementation uses OffscreenCanvas.convertToBlob; otherwise it uses an HTML canvas and toBlob.
The PNG path deliberately passes no quality value to the encoder. This page exposes no quality slider, background-color selector, resize control, or per-file quality override. Its purpose is format conversion with the default rendered dimensions. A quality percentage from a JPEG workflow does not apply to this PNG export.
Lossless describes the PNG encoding stage, not a guarantee that every original AVIF value survives decoding and rendering unchanged. The tool does not request a special canvas color space or precision. Do not treat it as an archival HDR or high-bit-depth conversion pipeline, and keep the original when those properties matter.
How do batch downloads and failed files work?
Select two or more files together to enter batch mode. The queue takes the first 50 files, then converts them sequentially. Split a larger collection into separate batches rather than assuming files beyond the cap will be included. The list shows each source filename, status, and available output size instead of giving every item the single-image comparison view.
A failed conversion is recorded on its row and does not prevent the next file from being attempted. Download a successful PNG through its row's download icon, or use Download ZIP to collect completed results. The archive is named converted-png.zip and includes only files marked successfully converted. Review errors separately before delivering the archive.
Single-image mode provides an editable output name; batch names follow the source names with the AVIF extension replaced by PNG. The batch list does not provide inline renaming. Use Convert new batch after saving your results, or Convert another in single-image mode. These actions clear the current conversion state.
What happens to transparency, metadata, and animation?
This PNG path does not paint a solid background before drawing the image, so decoded alpha transparency remains in the rendered output. Inspect edges as well as the center of a cutout. A white area that was already opaque in the AVIF remains white: changing the file format does not remove a background or create a subject mask.
The converter re-encodes a canvas rather than copying the AVIF container. Its EXIF transfer routine is restricted to JPEG-to-JPEG output, and its EXIF summary reader recognizes JPEG data. Consequently, an empty metadata summary here is not evidence that your source AVIF never contained capture information. Keep the source if you need those records.
There is no animation-frame loop or animated PNG export in this workflow. Treat the download as a still image, not as a way to retain an animated AVIF sequence. Preview the result before replacing any source asset. The converter also cannot reconstruct detail or remove artifacts that were already present in a lossy source.
What should you do if a file or image URL fails?
Decoding relies on the browser's createImageBitmap support for the supplied file. An empty input returns an error; a decoding or canvas-export exception becomes a conversion error. Try opening the source locally to check that it is a readable image. Renaming an unrelated file to .avif does not convert its contents.
The upload hint displays 100 MB per file, but that is not a guarantee that every image of that size will decode. Canvas allocation depends on pixel dimensions and available memory, not just compressed bytes. Try fewer files together when a large image fails. Sequential processing still retains completed output blobs for download.
The URL form attempts a fetch, while the deployed Content Security Policy permits connections only to this site. For an external URL, download the image first and choose the local file. Local conversion does not upload your image to a conversion server. Use PNG Compressor to explore a smaller PNG afterward, or browse Image Tools for another operation.
How to Use AVIF to PNG Converter
-
Choose AVIF files or drag & drop
Select one AVIF for the single-image preview, or select multiple files to start a batch of up to 50. Conversion starts automatically.
-
Download
For a single image, compare the preview and optionally edit the filename before clicking Download. For a batch, use an individual file's download icon to save its PNG.
-
Download ZIP
For multiple files, wait for conversion to finish and click Download ZIP. The converted-png.zip archive contains successfully converted PNGs; check the list for any failed files.
-
Convert another
Use Convert another after a single image, or Convert new batch after a batch, to clear the current results and start again. Save your downloads before resetting.
